Seattle, Washington — For Seattle-based power trio Beatdown Saints, their music is a blend of both the familiar and the unique. The sound is decidedly rooted in classic southern rock, but it is in its essence the product of the chemistry between the three artists that create it. The band’s much-awaited debut album is indeed a labour of love and a manifestation of this collaborative spirit, a combination of “thunderous and fierce to dreamy and vulnerable”. Recorded at Equinox Studios in the Sodo district of Seattle, WA, and the band’s private studio in Sultan, WA, the record was both produced and engineered by Beatdown Saints. From the Bo-Diddley influenced beat on the cover of Journey’s “Lights” to the James Brown-esque groove in the verses of “Shoulda Stayed Home” to the 13/8 jam in the breakdown section of James Taylor’s “Country Road,” Beatdown Saints delivers soulful rock music that connects with audiences of all flavors. According to the bandmates, the motivation behind this record was to make an effort to capture the spirit of listening to the band live, which they believe is the crux of their musical journey. This means that the album features extended jams, guitar solos, improvisation, three-part harmony, and lively interchange between the three players. For the band’s loyal, ever-growing fan-base, Some Call it Sinning is the perfect album to listen to all summer long.

Camptonville, California – January 18, 2021 – Kyle Ledson is a professional singer-songwriter who traces his musical beginnings back to his childhood. He spent his years as a kid going to several bluegrass music festivals, developing his own impressive knack for singing and songwriting. Even at the young age of 18 years old, the artist has accomplished a lot by gaining a fanbase and stage spots with his bluegrass campground jams.

Kyle will release his long-awaited sophomore album, ‘Left It All Behind,’ on January 22, 2021. With this particular album, listeners will bear witness to the artist’s signature sound – a mix of bluegrass acoustic music with a touch of a jam-band groove. The album is set to feature Kyle’s collaboration with artists like Ben Kaufmann from the legendary Yonder Mountain String Band, Dan Lebowitz, Ezra Lipp, & Steve Adams from the band ALO and others.

‘Left It All Behind’ shows off the artist’s multi-faceted musical talent as a guitarist and vocalist. The bluegrass acoustic tunes will delight the fans of Billy Strings, Yonder Mountain String Band, Greensky Bluegrass, The Infamous Stringdusters, and The Grateful Dead. Kyle’s next few releases will work towards his goal of forming a traveling band to tour and connect with fans of the bluegrass and jam- band music scene.

I am 19, with 13 brothers and sisters! I rap to express and help myself if people relate then awesome but music, is my therapy to help me. I have a son, that I can’t see because of my baby mama and her new boyfriend.

Talk to us more about your latest release

I release a single recently but this year, in March, 2018 I have a 30 track album, called “My Personal Mirror” it’s about my deep personal and depressing life, with aggression. Then I will release a mixtape 2, about the history between me and my baby mama and my son, and what went wrong which releases this year, also I called “Family Therapy” no release date yet.

What inspired you to write this release?

What inspired me was just the mix emotions I went through at that point of time. I had artists, who gave me some inspiration to write, this also but so many names, I feel it wouldn’t be worth mentioning.

Any plans to release a video?

YES! Every album I release a few music videos 4 at the most.

Any plans to hit the road?

I would love to one day! I haven’t had any plans yet but I most certainly would!

As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?

What I do is i try to promote my music in my my home state which is PA, I do have friends, in different countries like Australia, to help spread, the word there also. What I do differently is I switch up, my style and the way I rap, isn’t like anyone else i view, music as a book you write, then when it comes to the recording I am painting what I written like a artist would.

Who have you been listening to lately?

Eminem, NF, Enkay47, Tupac, Dr. Dre, Kane Brown, Phish, Grateful Dead, G-Eazy, Machine Gun Kelly, D12 and Hopsin. That’s everyone at the moment.

Tell us about your passions

My passion is to achieve my goals, everyday to wake up, everyday with something new to achieve and to make sure I complete it like a mission. You only have so much time, and only have one life. So I get up and I use it there is always something to have passion for mine just happens to be accomplishing a new goal everyday.

What else is happening next in your world?

In 3 years I will be joining the military, I will also be trying my hardest to releases as much music I can before I ship out.

Thanks for an awesome interview, Brandon!

My music exists as a set of possibilities, ideas on a theme if you like, confined by various limitations: execution, skill, technicalities, the form itself. (Translation: I don’t feel any of my songs have been adequately recorded yet). I’m 46, over my time I virtually saw things change before my eyes, multitracking even a cassette player with another one was something I only dreamed of, (I had to do that in my head, and it was not at all as easy as it sounds, for me anyway). We were poor, I shared a bedroom with two brothers, and I would borrow my brothers radio to listen to music. For a while my other brother and I were learning guitar and bass together, good times. I have probably a dozen songs I’m really happy with and want recorded/performed, and many others to set down ‘for the record’. I did vocals for one song into my phone while under a tree in the park during a time when I was homeless in winter in Launceston, people hear my music and wonder why I haven’t done this or that, well, I’m trying, really trying hard. Three years ago, as I was half way to recording this stuff, these songs that wont leave me alone, all my gear was stolen, my gibson 335 of 22 years etc etc and I was bashed and kicked got brain injury as well, but since then my appreciation and guitar playing seems to have blossomed into … something like my own voice…? It surprises me, people often used to say about my playing, that sometimes it sounds like two guitars playing together, I’m beginning to notice more. I started a patreon page to maybe see if there’s support out there.
Jane is a multi instrumentalist, but mainly has a big voice and much experience, that ability to carry an audience, my friend said of her singing: “Jane’s voice sounds like the flames on Jimi Hendrix’ guitar”.
Together we are Wavecage, and friends.

Talk to us more about your latest release

Nearly 30 years ago, 29 to be exact, I sat in a music appreciation class of a TSIT Associate Diploma of Music (Guitar). I doodled a drawing based on a scene from a movie I had seen years earlier, Young Sherlock Holmes (various cakes and pastries were trying to forcefully get themselves eaten by young Watson). The scene I’d set was an inn, and inside were all the eat-me type cakes and pastries (patrons and staff), and it was a nightclub. It was called, I decided, The Vicious Eat Me Club. I wrote a list of 11 song titles, and that, I decided, would be my album, so I set about making it. I was 17, now I’m 46 and that album has not been made! Its half done, though, so you can hear the potential and cringe at the reality.
Sometimes friends would come up with songs that were so good I had to get in on that, and this song Faces (That Just Never Smile) is one of those. I nearly deleted this, but instead it became my most played track on soundcloud. Its all instrumental (unfinished, I was bashed and robbed, long story, album tracks never finished since 9/10/2014), the bit on the end was off the cuff. I wrote the keyboard solo, rather than played it.

What inspired you to write this release?

The song is one of Tim’s, while Marcus basically wrote the tune, (band: Berko), I tweaked it ever so slightly. I was not going to release this version, which I did in my lounge at home alone with Audacity, guitar and FX pedal for click track, no, I was going to delete it. It was terrible, so I thought. Just for kicks, I mixed in a solo I’d written in Melody Assistant years ago, and it kinda worked, so I deleted other project files instead – at the time I was just starting the Eat Me project and had already run out of space, so until I could save for a bigger drive, I was deleting stuff.

Any plans to release a video?

Yes, this song has a visual story to it. Its about small towns, small lives, problem children, drinking in city dives… its full of imagery. Faces that just never smile – its Launceston, its a picture of our city. The video just about directs itself, imho. I have no money, I just do with what I’ve got. I’d love to help make the video. The video I have made is just placeholder, really, with hard to read lyrics…

As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?

Well, I don’t. My brand is cheap, my computer science degree was done on a Pentium I 150mhz when Pentium IIIs and IVs were the new thang, I have do make do with less, I recorded some tracks even when I was homeless, you know, I haven’t worked out branding, so far its evolved from the debris left behind from other projects I’ve been involved in, and just, life.

Who have you been listening to lately?

oh lately I’ve been listening to classical music on FM radio, lol, beats traffic,
Well, lately I am listening to songs like Journey of the Sorcerer – The Eagles (its the theme for BBC radio version of HHGTTG, an audio series I been listening to also), and Once Upon A Time in the West, Dire Straits (from Alchemy Live).

Libertalia writes, records and performs modern American dance music with significant elements of Jazz, Rock, Reggae and WorldBeat. All of our material is original which I write, arrange and produce with my confidante and associate producer vocalist/dancer/actress/fashion designer Joni Margaux. Bill Davidow is our recording, mixing and mastering engineer and we have recorded all of our tracks at Virlouise in Anaheim, California. I play the guitar, bass and keyboard parts. We use various friends on drums and horns. Joni and I do the singing. We do not use Auto-Tune or any other pitch correcting hardware or software.

Our initial project is a three CD trilogy. “Where Liberty Dwells” will feature material from our Funk/Rock/Fusion side; “Soiree at the Café Creole” from our Jazz/Blues/R&B side; and “A Rising Tide” from our Reggae and WorldBeat side. A little more than half of the trilogy is recorded, in the can, so to speak… about a quarter is in production and about a quarter is yet to be written.

Even though we are splitting up the repertoire into three basic subgenres, mostly for marketing reasons, there is continuity to the production. There is a Libertalia sound. Our music always features a strong bass line with a deep groove obvious from the first measure. We employ a horn section and/or Gospel-like backup vocals on many tunes. We have a number of tracks with guitar solos but I don’t take a solo on every tune.

Conceptually, we do, of course, promote the idea of a libertarian microstate in more or less the same mold as Monaco, San Marino, Andorra and Liberland but we don’t get too heavy handed with the lyrics. We are very serious about our music and our mission but we try to interject some humor into the material and not take ourselves too seriously.

Talk to us more about your latest release

Our latest release comes from our Jazz/Blues/R&B side and is called “Lil Jubie”. It has a bit of a retro feel in that it is built over a nearly unison bass and guitar line much like Peter Gunn, Pretty Woman or Day Tripper. There is a heavy horn line and counter melody which doesn’t come in until after the second verse/chorus but once it does, establishes a theme which we reprise at the vamp. We have a very funky organ breakdown following the horn “solo” which further takes the piece into a place where you almost have to envision a chase sequence from a Quentin Tarantino movie.

Lyrically, “Lil Jubie” is about an actual person, a great R&B singer and friend with whom I have worked with off and on for many years. It’s not really a love song per se – more of a tribute – but the descriptive portion of the lyrics is accurate. She’s a very unconventional girl and yes, she has heard the song and she does like it. The promotional art work is taken from a photo session that was shot ages ago, so again, retro.

What inspired you to write this release?

Lil Jubie doesn’t actually go by Lil Jubie but I heard someone call her that and I immediately thought, “That is a great name for a tune”. I had the guitar/bass line floating around in my head for some time and felt like it might be a good fit.

Any plans to release a video?

Joni and I are both fans of Turner Classic Movies (TCM) and classic films in general and we both understand that our music is going nowhere without video. Like it or not, that is just the way it works now. So, yes, we are definitely going to produce videos for every single one of our tunes.

You can imagine the fun we could have with a retro tune like Lil Jubie but, for now, our strategy is to stay focused on our recording process and complete our three CD trilogy before undertaking the challenge of developing a cinematic process to complement our recording process.

Any plans to hit the road?

Yes, we are very much looking forward to performing our material live; however, again, we are staying focused on completing our three CD trilogy (which will give us over two hours of live original material) before putting together the live act.

As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?

Our website sums up our mission like this…

“In this crazy, mixed-up world where the alleged Land of the Free has the highest incarceration rate of any country, the inhabitants of Prison Planet cry out for some small corner of the earth where health, wealth and happiness might be pursued unburdened by the Dictates of Oligarchs or the Tyranny of the Masses.

“That land, that dream, that nation, we call… Libertalia!”

Writing for Neu Futur, Allene Lewis responds with this…

“Most original bands, content to merely find an audience for their material, would be ecstatic to launch an artistic movement. Libertalia seeks to go way beyond that. Their objective is to give musical voice to a movement to create an entirely new nation-state. They’re not looking for fans. They’re looking for freedom fighters. Have they completely lost their minds? Maybe. Maybe not.”

We’ve only been on facebook since January but already we have over 15,000 fans and over 20,000 Twitter followers. We have over 1.5 million SoundCloud plays. Still we don’t look for any real traction until we start putting our music to video.

Who have you been listening to lately?

I intentionally do not listen to much so-called popular music. I don’t want to be influenced by mediocrity. Instead, I program my subconscious with the best of Dave Grusin, David Sanborn, Henry Mancini, Joe Zawinul, Bernard Herrmann, Tchaikovsky, and so on, so that when I open my subconscious up to allow musical ideas to flow, I get great quality ideas. Garbage in = garbage out, right? Well, the corollary to that is: Quality in = quality out.

The Chosen Spirit is a musical adventure. We are Pete Leah, singer/songwriter and guitarist, Anna Perry, pianist par excellence , Ben Jennings (musical maestro) and vocal contributions from Louis Muntoni sounding like Blind Willie Johnson! The combination of good old fashioned songwriting mixed with some classical leaning, experimentation , psychedelia and a desire to challenge ourselves results in what is now an interesting and eclectic body of work encompassing elements of blues, classical, jazz , electronica and good old-fashioned jamming.

Talk to us more about your latest release

Taster sessions Vol 5, released in February 2017, will be the latest edition to the Taster Sessions series. Using studio recordings with minimal overdubs, live jams, electronic music production, improvisation and the desire to collaborate with new people has led to Volume 5 coming in at 80 minutes of original material showcasing our musician ship and the eclectic nature of the music we enjoyed listening to and indeed enjoyed making.

What inspired you to write this release?

The unquenchable thirst to make and write good music, the joy of jamming, the pleasure that comes from bouncing ideas off other people and just the satisfaction in knowing that the music we make is something to be proud of and needs to be heard.

Any plans to release a video?

“Heads Up” is our latest single and does have a video to accompany it…please feast in its visual splendour!

Any plans to hit the road?

We are currently just studio based but will be playing local festivals in the summer, so if you happen to be in the Midlands in the UK, look out for us!

As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?

As totally independent artists, branding isn’t really an issue. We really make music because we want to play music, it’s that simple. We make music that should appeal to a broad spectrum, but primarily we make it for ourselves.

Who have you been listening to lately?

Mark Lanegan
Amorphous Androgynous
Monkey 3
The Doors
