Mallet, Louisiana— April 7th, 2023 – Double Trouble Zydeco- a talented duo consisting of the stunning identical twins Benjamin and Bervick Guillory is back with their striking album titled, ‘The Road 2 Zydeco Extravaganza.’ Inspired by his love for zydeco, Benjamin began his musical escapades, walking in the halls of his high school carrying his accordion. He remembers his friendss making fun of him but would always reply saying- “I’m going to have my own band one day you just watch and see.”

True to his word, Benjamin’s dreams transpired into a reality. While Zydeco has changed with lots of variety and flavor, the artist taught his twin brother Bervick (who was not sure at first yet also had a true love for zydeco) how to play the accordion the birth of Double Trouble Zydeco.

Double Trouble Zydeco debut album “The Road To Zydeco Extravagaza” released on Memorial Day Weekend with over 3,000 copies sold. This incredible feat was achieved despite having no digital outlets and no major streaming online. Dedicated to the icon Buckwheat Zydeco, the album’s digital release is slated for March 7th, 2023.

Influenced and taught the essentials of the craft by the artistic powerhouse Lil Jeff Boutte, the twins continue to cherish their learning and continue his message. Touching fans around the world with their debut at The Zydeco Extravaganza, the artists recall being backstage and running into Buckwheat Zydeco, who reassured them that they did a great job and advised him to always stay true to their roots, true to themselves, and to always put God first.

About

The Double Trouble Zydeco twins were born in 1991 and raised in Mallet, Louisiana in the heart of Zydeco Country. The twins, Benjamin and Bervick Guillory, were both immersed in Creole culture and lifestyle by their father and grandparents. As teenagers, they learned their maternal grandmother Mary Ann Carrier was related to the great Roy Carrier, Dikki du, and Grammy Award winner Chubby Carrier- realizing that they have Zydeco running through their veins!

As young boys, they attended trail rides and were fascinated with the live sounds of Zydeco. In fact, they would sneak into every club that would allow them, just so they could watch and listen to live Zydeco music. At the age of 13, Benjamin knew he had to learn to play the accordion and asked his mother to buy him one for Christmas. At times their mother struggled to make ends meet for her children, and when Benjamin finally had his very own accordion he knew it was the beginning of something great.

Today, the twins continue to enthrall and inspire audiences with their collective prowess. Being a advocate for autism and helping others while conjuring one of the highest energy shows to date in Zydeco, Benjamin and Bervick, with their unparalleled skills and joint talents have become a truly dynamic duo. And the best is yet to come!

The Profitz are a group of talented and promising singers and artists who are driven to make an impact in people’s lives, simply by following their own passion and interests.
Fitz decided to collaborate with his longtime friends and fellow musicians, namely guitarist Steve Grisbrook and bass player Omar Tunnoch. Together, the artists agreed to work with each other and The PROFITZ were born. Collectively these multi-award-winning Canadian musicians have worked with some amazing talent over their careers. Big Joe Turner, Etta James, Lou Reed, Foreigner, Electric Flag, Billy Ray Cyrus, Fathead, Paul Butterfield, Downchild Blues Band, James Cotton, Dan Aykroyd, Paul Shaffer, Colin James is just some of the distinguished names that The Profitz have recorded or performed with.

Libertalia writes, records and performs modern American dance music with significant elements of Jazz, Rock, Reggae and WorldBeat. All of our material is original which I write, arrange and produce with my confidante and associate producer vocalist/dancer/actress/fashion designer Joni Margaux. Bill Davidow is our recording, mixing and mastering engineer and we have recorded all of our tracks at Virlouise in Anaheim, California. I play the guitar, bass and keyboard parts. We use various friends on drums and horns. Joni and I do the singing. We do not use Auto-Tune or any other pitch correcting hardware or software.

Our initial project is a three CD trilogy. “Where Liberty Dwells” will feature material from our Funk/Rock/Fusion side; “Soiree at the Café Creole” from our Jazz/Blues/R&B side; and “A Rising Tide” from our Reggae and WorldBeat side. A little more than half of the trilogy is recorded, in the can, so to speak… about a quarter is in production and about a quarter is yet to be written.

Even though we are splitting up the repertoire into three basic subgenres, mostly for marketing reasons, there is continuity to the production. There is a Libertalia sound. Our music always features a strong bass line with a deep groove obvious from the first measure. We employ a horn section and/or Gospel-like backup vocals on many tunes. We have a number of tracks with guitar solos but I don’t take a solo on every tune.

Conceptually, we do, of course, promote the idea of a libertarian microstate in more or less the same mold as Monaco, San Marino, Andorra and Liberland but we don’t get too heavy handed with the lyrics. We are very serious about our music and our mission but we try to interject some humor into the material and not take ourselves too seriously.

Talk to us more about your latest release

Our latest release comes from our Jazz/Blues/R&B side and is called “Lil Jubie”. It has a bit of a retro feel in that it is built over a nearly unison bass and guitar line much like Peter Gunn, Pretty Woman or Day Tripper. There is a heavy horn line and counter melody which doesn’t come in until after the second verse/chorus but once it does, establishes a theme which we reprise at the vamp. We have a very funky organ breakdown following the horn “solo” which further takes the piece into a place where you almost have to envision a chase sequence from a Quentin Tarantino movie.

Lyrically, “Lil Jubie” is about an actual person, a great R&B singer and friend with whom I have worked with off and on for many years. It’s not really a love song per se – more of a tribute – but the descriptive portion of the lyrics is accurate. She’s a very unconventional girl and yes, she has heard the song and she does like it. The promotional art work is taken from a photo session that was shot ages ago, so again, retro.

What inspired you to write this release?

Lil Jubie doesn’t actually go by Lil Jubie but I heard someone call her that and I immediately thought, “That is a great name for a tune”. I had the guitar/bass line floating around in my head for some time and felt like it might be a good fit.

Any plans to release a video?

Joni and I are both fans of Turner Classic Movies (TCM) and classic films in general and we both understand that our music is going nowhere without video. Like it or not, that is just the way it works now. So, yes, we are definitely going to produce videos for every single one of our tunes.

You can imagine the fun we could have with a retro tune like Lil Jubie but, for now, our strategy is to stay focused on our recording process and complete our three CD trilogy before undertaking the challenge of developing a cinematic process to complement our recording process.

Any plans to hit the road?

Yes, we are very much looking forward to performing our material live; however, again, we are staying focused on completing our three CD trilogy (which will give us over two hours of live original material) before putting together the live act.

As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?

Our website sums up our mission like this…

“In this crazy, mixed-up world where the alleged Land of the Free has the highest incarceration rate of any country, the inhabitants of Prison Planet cry out for some small corner of the earth where health, wealth and happiness might be pursued unburdened by the Dictates of Oligarchs or the Tyranny of the Masses.

“That land, that dream, that nation, we call… Libertalia!”

Writing for Neu Futur, Allene Lewis responds with this…

“Most original bands, content to merely find an audience for their material, would be ecstatic to launch an artistic movement. Libertalia seeks to go way beyond that. Their objective is to give musical voice to a movement to create an entirely new nation-state. They’re not looking for fans. They’re looking for freedom fighters. Have they completely lost their minds? Maybe. Maybe not.”

We’ve only been on facebook since January but already we have over 15,000 fans and over 20,000 Twitter followers. We have over 1.5 million SoundCloud plays. Still we don’t look for any real traction until we start putting our music to video.

Who have you been listening to lately?

I intentionally do not listen to much so-called popular music. I don’t want to be influenced by mediocrity. Instead, I program my subconscious with the best of Dave Grusin, David Sanborn, Henry Mancini, Joe Zawinul, Bernard Herrmann, Tchaikovsky, and so on, so that when I open my subconscious up to allow musical ideas to flow, I get great quality ideas. Garbage in = garbage out, right? Well, the corollary to that is: Quality in = quality out.

Besides playing clarinet in my gradeschool band, I really didn’t do anything with my music. I always loved to sing my heart out though, and always dreamed of being a singer.
I answered an ad in the Scene Magazine for a Funk/Metal , and although I was extremely nervous, I showed them what I had to offer, and I became the lead singer of Funk/Metal band Gridlock.

Gridlock played all over Ohio, of course, mostly in our hometown, Cleveland. I was in heaven.
At 32 years old, I decided I wanted to learn to play guitar. My guitar instructor came to see Gridlock and loved my voice. I sung on his next record, and we recorded a couple of my
original songs.

I was with Gridlock for two years. At the end, I was going through a divorce and had to leave. I went through a couple jealous boyfriends after that, so I was an idiot and didn’t do much with my music for awhile.

I finally ended up in a couple cover bands. That got boring, so I started recording my own music at home with Apogee products and MacBook Pro.

Talk to us more about your latest release

My latest release, Peote Day, is very simple and different than my other songs. It is only my vocals, my own harmonies, and my Martin Acoustic. I performed all of the music myself, and believe me this is an incredible feeling.

I had the ability with my Apogee MiC and JAM, and my MacBook Pro. After my debut with Meeting of the Minds, then Like it or Not, and My Ride. You can check their stuff out here: http://www.apogeedigital.com/. These products are so simple to use and deliver amazing quality audio. This allowed me complete freedom and control to do everything myself, start to finish.

What inspired you to write this release?

My pathetic love life inspired me to write this song. It is about the change that was beginning to occur as I decided to be free of men for awhile. I just plain old took a break! This was extremely hard for me, as I wanted a lover and good relationship. Peote Day is about the day I decided to leave the relationship I was in and be free!

Any plans to release a video?

I have created a few videos on YouTube. However, I haven’t found the right people or money to get a live recording of myself performing my songs. I would LOVE to do this, however, it just hasn’t come together yet. I believe in waiting for the right time, people, and circumstance to create something amazing rather than just spitting a song out .

Any plans to hit the road?

As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?

I’ve done a lot of research on how to brand myself. A lot of this stuff I was completely in the dark about, and learned through word of mouth.

Someone told me to check out Reverbnation, where you can create a free profile and upload your music. There are a lot of upgrades you can pay for, and I did do some of that in the beginning to promote my first couple of songs. This can get a bit expensive, however, it definitely helped in getting my music out there.

Another tool is CD Baby, which is a fantastic platform where you can sell your music. Then, you can have Reverbnation put buttons on your page where people will be directed to CD Baby. I love their artist page. Also, CD Baby offers a lot of other tools to get your music out there such as Radio Airplay, Landr mastering service, and more. There websites are really creative and appealing. You can see for yourself if you check out my Artist Page.

Who have you been listening to lately?

I always love Greenday, they are just a fun band to listen to. I’ve also been listening to T.I. My favorite song by him is “You Can Have Whatever You Like”. It’s a fun dance beat as well! I’m all over the place! You can tell by my music how different each song sounds. I also LOVE Blink 182’s song “I Miss You”. I could listen to that song all day!

Tell us about your passions

I am very involved with my family, so that takes up a lot of my time. I also just started a small business, Online Business Education LLC. I run it from home on my laptop, or anywhere else there is WiFi.

This has been an amazing journey for me. As life goes on, I find different talents emerging, and that is a beautiful thing!!

What else is happening next in your world?

I plan on releasing some new songs in 2017. I want to expand my business so that I have funds to do more with my music. I love being Independent, and I am working towards that in my music and my new online business.

Thanks for an awesome interview, Michelle!

Where Tha Keys is my latest single produced by Maurice Mcgee. The song gives a hype delivery about being tired of being down and out of money and the need to fall in love with opportunity so that you may be wealthy and take care of your needs.
