Tell us about yourself and your music

I started writing music at the age of 10 years old . Music was always a huge part of my life. When i was younger i was anti social and majority of the time would have a pair head phones on listening to old school hip hop. I did this to block out drama going on in the house hold. The business side of making music i was not interested in at that time of my career because i wrote lyrics to vent about situations i was going through. My mind was rewired after i mastered my craft and became labeled a lyricist in my community I wanted to treat my music as a business. At that point, I started doing as much research possibly about publishing companies, distribution deals, and other topics that could put some money in my pocket. My goal is to do music full time and never have to work a regular job ever again. Having wrong people in my circle caused me to end up in jail, which put my music on hold. During my incarceration, it gave me time to reevaluate my life and focus on becoming a better person. When released on probation for 3 years, I met two producers in early 2020 that literally changed my life. Anno Domini and Legion Beats gave me resources that allowed me to become even more hungry as an indie artist for exposer i felt my music deserved. The new generation of rap music in my opinion destroyed the culture because 9 out of 10 brag about materialistic stuff and use auto tunes. I’m more into music that has meaning behind the lyrics. My song list consist of different styles for listeners to choose from. Currently, i’m working hard on my debut album entitled Martial Law that will be released on Halloween 2021. I have huge features involved in this project including Jadakiss, Twista, Lil Wayne, and many more. My main focus right now is dropping as much new music as possible, while learning all business aspects needed to become a successful indie artist. I want to put New Mexico on the map and help with the homeless problem in Albuquerque once i get established as an artist.

Talk to us more about your latest release

My latest release is entitled Outside featuring June B. The instrumental was made by multI platinum producer Legion Beats. He worked on projects with E40, Kendrick Lamar, 2 Chains, and Snoop Dogg.

What inspired you to write this release?

The song Outside featuring June B made me dig deep into my past. I used to roll with dangerous people and was involved in situations that could have put me away for a long time. The lyrics was intended for rappers that talk a bunch of nonsense online, but refuse to meet up face to face for handling the conflict. I regret being that person, but wanted listeners to know that side of me does exist.

Describe the writing and recording process

The writing process usually comes naturally. Once my pen touches the notepad I have tunnel vision and my only focus is completing the song. I even turn my phone off completely, so I’m not distracted by phone calls or email notifications. When the recording session takes place I make sure my lyrics are memorized to avoid sounding like im reading off a paper and have a monotone voice.

Any plans to release a video?

Any plans to hit the road?

Of course i got plans to hit the road, but Covid 19 caused venues (in certain states) to slow down on events. A tour will be scheduled after i release my debut album Martial Law on Halloween 2021. As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?

To be honest, I feel my lyrics make me stand out all by themselves. Branding is an important part of being a rapper, but I’m from the old school era where an emcee can do a live performance in pajamas if his lyrics has meaning behind them. Now days listeners rather focus on the instrumental and ignore to words being said. It’s sad how watered down hip hop has become over the years.

Who have you been listening to lately?

I have been mostly listening to Merkules, Jedi Mind Tricks, Eminem, Hopsin, and Black Thought. Since day one I’ve never been a fan of main stream radio music.

Who are your biggest influences?

My biggest influences are stories where people go through a lot in this world, but still find ways to maneuver around obstacles and end up successful in the long run. I’m a firm believer that you have to fail and make mistakes in life to learn lessons from those situations to become a better individual. Most people give up when times get hard, which is a bad trait to have. Eminem influenced me a lot because he made it known that anyone that crosses his path the wrong way will end up mentioned on a diss track that most likely would end their career. Most people get upset about being criticised, but Eminem remained calm and proved why is is one of the most controversial lyricist in the rap game.

Tell us about your passions

I’m passionate about giving back to my community. The homeless rate in Albuquerque, NM is at an all time high and there seems to be lack of resources. There is many shelters, but I’ve seen people that had to sleep on the streets during the winter due to no beds being available. It hurts my soul to see the less fortunate suffer. One day i want to be apart of the reason New Mexico residents don’t have to experience poverty as much.

What else is happening next in your world?

My album Martial Law releases on Halloween 2021 and I’m putting a lot of effort into making this project a successful hip hop classic. If this virus ever becomes contained, I plan on touring all over the United States in 2022. I will never stop studying different topics, so i can become a well rounded artist. Eventually, I want to place my music in major films, TV shows, and video games.

JIM BURROUGHS “SONGS OF THE REVOLUTION: CREATION OF THE NATION IN SONGS, BALLADS & LETTERS”

Tell us about yourself and your music.

As a kid growing up in semi-rural Maryland, my mom and dad were always making music on the weekends. My mom played the piano, preferring honkytonk and 30s and 40’s pop love songs. My dad, on the other hand, played violin, mostly classical material, Beethoven in particular, but would often hop across the music border into bluegrass and Appalachian folk songs. Their music came from very different places – my mother was a wild Irish lass who cried when she played “Danny Boy”, whose parents hopped a boat from County Cork poverty while my father’s ancestors arrived on our shores from England in 1640 seeking intellectual and religious freedom, thus their backgrounds and temperaments were quite different. But when they played music together it was a hybrid of it all – sometimes brilliant, sometimes curious, but always entertaining and a learning experience for me with my first Sears & Roebuck guitar. And then the early SUN recordings of Elvis Presley exploded on the radio and pulled me out of the musical cocoon with my Dad and Mom and brought me into my first garage band at 13 years old.

Consequently, one might understand how I developed both a broader interest and reach in music and lyrics which has continued to benefit from my documentary work in foreign and often remote lands, where one might encounter different musical scales, modalities and instruments, which are of particular value in scoring. Music can tell a world story or a local story, and for me story is foremost.

Talk to us more about your latest release.

I conceived of my release for “Songs of the Revolution” three years ago when issues developed in our government that were putting our Constitution at risk. I fear that too many people today are losing touch with our “founding path”. This I feel is the result of a decline in the teaching of American History and Civics in our schools over the past 40 or so years. So in a quiet sort of way this was a personal crusade for me.

Describe the writing and recording process

The writing process was first of all a research project. To write the lyrics for the critical battles of Bunker Hill, Trenton, and the hit-and-run attacks of Francis Marion in the Carolina swamps, for example, it was important to search beyond history books and dig up actual accounts which told of the often small environmental realities and human traits generally unknown that go into telling a good and accurate story. Take the Battle of Trenton: Just how much snow was falling and how much ice was in the river when George Washington led his men in flatboats across the Delaware into New Jersey to sneak up on the Hessian soldiers on Dec 26, whom Washington surmised to have been drinking heavily on Christmas night. And it was important to know that Washington – truly desperate then from his losses in New York and New Jersey – had scribbled his code message for the battle on a piece of crumpled paper that he passed around from man to man. “Victory or Death” it read. Carrying research to the next step, one has to make a study of the musical forms used in songs and ballads during Colonial times as well as the instrumentation used. Then, of course, comes that blank sheet of music paper or cassette/CD recorder together with a guitar or keyboard as you ponder melody and harmony while you go about creating the marriage of ideas in the forms of words and music.

When recording with acoustic instruments one must allow additional set up time for the engineer. While an authentic harpsichord or clavichord may be difficult to find and move to the studio, multiple mikes to accurately record this instrument will take even more time to place. In terms of voice, one may have to consider accent and pronunciation authentic to a particular location. Consider the “Swamp Fox” song, where spoken language in the southern swamps was distinctly different in the 18th century from Irish flavored English speech in Boston.

Any plans to release a video?

Plans and preliminary designs for videos are in the works, which in the time of covid can be great teaching tools. Here’s where my team’s broad experience in both film and music production will come in very handily.

Any plans to hit the road?

Hitting the road and taking the stage with singers wearing masks and guitarists wearing rubber gloves will not bring in audiences, even Revolutionary War diehards. Zoom events without real audiences can work in a limited way and will be explored.

As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?

Who are your biggest influences?

I must make a division between my influence as a SONG-WRITER and as a COMPOSER FOR FILM and TV. There are, of course, overlaps in these classifications.

My favorite SONG-WRITERS come from many different periods in history. Of those who I listened to during my developing years include, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Joni Mitchell, Paul Simon, CSNY, James Taylor, Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Alison Straus, Tom Waits, Emmylou Harris, and of course John Lennon and Paul McCartney.

The film scores that have influenced me include, T Bone Burnett (Oh Brother Where Art Thou), Henry Mancini (Days of Wine and Roses), James Horner (Enemy at the Gates), John Barry (Out of Africa), Trevor Jones (Last of the Mohicans), George Delurue (Platoon), Luiz Bonfa (Black Orpheus), Carmine Coppola (Apocalypse Now), Bernard Hermann (Psycho), Maurice Jarre (Lawrence of Arabia), and Klaus Doldinger (Das Boot).

Tell us about your passions. Besides music, what gets you out of bed in the morning?

I am just completing a rock-country single “Home from the Wars,” which is the tale of a two-tour soldier in Afghanistan, who experiences awful things fighting ISIS and the Taliban, who is about to return to his beloved hometown on the southern coast. The veteran soon realizes that in fact he’s “returned from the wars only to come home to the wars.” My years of filming the wars in Afghanistan provide me with an authentic knowledge of my subjects and events.

What else is happening next in your world?

“Home From the Wars” will be ready for release in January 2021.

Tell us about yourself and your music

I’m inspired by melody and love a good story in a song. I like there to be many layers, so that someone who takes more than a passing interest in my music can delve deeper. I was inspired young by Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, and it surprises me that there aren’t more acts taking these genres further forward or sideways. I’m also of the opinion that songs choose me, I’m a vehicle for a collective inspiration in many ways. I often record my jams and listen back. What comes out “off the cuff” often surprises me, and I don’t understand what the lyrics are about, until much later. That said I write songs in all different ways. I love to collaborate with others, and have a few lyric writers often sending me their lyrics. Right now Im working on a few ideas from my best buddy Ruthy, that will probably make it on to an album in the future

Talk to us more about your latest release

Beautiful Blues is the title track from my latest EP. It’s a song that celebrates sorrow and sadness by recognising its beauty and romance. It’s one of those songs that “found me”, as I just explained. It has had a pretty big impact live, and clearly moves people. The second track Mary Mary, much the same. Jamming when it came to me. On a listen back, it was undeniable. Mary Mary, to date is my best performing single ever, and has publishing representation in the USA, which is exciting.
The EP as a whole is not the most comfortable or easygoing releases. It’s themes are confronting to some degree. The other songs deal with issues of displaced people and the evils of big Pharma. I’m ok with this. My aim is not always to please, and it feels like a good time to make people think.

What inspired you to write this release?

Releasing this EP a healing process for me. The songs have been compiled over 5 years, with the most recent (Beautiful Blues and Mary Mary) written in 2019 and recorded in 19/20. Beautiful Blues I have already discussed, but Mary Mary, is a song worth further analysis. It’s a story telling tune, about a River, in this case The Mary River. Where I live (in the Mary Valley) the creek that runs through our property eventually joins the Mary River. Although I have only lived here since 2017, Im inspired by the River being a central part of my Community. As such the songs talks about special memories which were made by the river. It could be any river in the world. Running water brings people together, and the peace and happiness spending time by a River is a healing and universal theme .

The other songs were written 2015 and recorded the following year, but came at a very dark time in my life and the songs reflect this. I spent 7 months in Europe, and let’s just say it wasn’t the most positive of experiences. I got to feel what it was like to have extreme uncertainly in my life. It resulted in a relationship breakdown with my long time musical and life partner and that resulted in a very nasty battle over intellectual property, including these three songs, which I am now received have come back home to me. I’m in a much better place now, the songs I am writing currently are more carefree and hopeful, and I believe it is because I have been able to compartmentalise this collection of tunes in the form of a release, letting go of all the frustrations and build up. I’m free now.

Describe the writing and recording process

My process for writing songs is varied. I believe that songs write themselves to a degree. It’s my job to recognise when they are worthy of refining, performing, recording and releasing. I jam and record my jams, I write lyrics, my friends write lyrics, and the combination of these things usually means I have a list of about 15-20 new tunes on the go at any one time. Songs need to pass the pub test… that is if other people enjoy them in a live situation or listen back and agree they are worth pursuing further. Recording the songs is a different story. In the past I have been a part of very expensive album recording projects, with excellent, well known producers. In this environment it is a team effort. I’m happy to take advice or suggestions from the professionals. More recently however I have been travelling a more solo inspired recording process, and as such I don’t really need an expensive studio and world class team. I guess I am also more confident and ready to steer the directions and results. My dear friend and colleague has a home recording setup, and so I’ve taken advantage of that with great results.

I have been a very busy performer in the past.
That came to a grinding halt in 2020. So I am very pleased to be able to launch my new EP on Saturday 12 December at a gorgeous intimate venue, GunCotton Coffee Roasters, a licenced Cafe in Yandina on The Sunshine Coast of Queensland Australia from 5:30pm

As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?

I’ve learnt that Independence is freedom not to hung up with the trappings of ego and want of fame. I have no one to please other than myself. Of course I want success, but I have learnt that having extra high hopes, or unrealistic expectations often leads to disappointment. So nowadays I do what I can to support my releases, I tell the relevant people, communicate with my fans and friends and I am content with the outcomes whatever they are.

How my music performs in the wider world really makes no difference to me, as I will continue to be a songwriter, performer, recording artist. I am privileged to have a place to live and thrive. What more could I want or need? If for some reason one of my songs “takes off” or my EP suddenly gets “picked up” in todays environment I cannot see it changing my life to any great degree.

Who have you been listening to lately?

Musically, I’m listening a lot to JJ Cale at the moment. I also watched an amazing documentary on Linda Rodstandt, which has got me looking up all her side projects. I can relate to her, as I believe I have a similar perfect pitch ear and singing voice to her (not nearly as amazing but similar).

Im also addicted to True Crime Podcasts. I have an active mind and sometimes struggle to sleep. It’s a relief to turn off the tap and get absorbed into someone else story.

Who are your biggest influences?

Led Zeppelin turned my world around as a teenager. Thanks to a dear older friend who one by one gave me each cassette to listen to on my Sony walkman. Wow. Although I don’t listen much nowadays (I know it all so well) I still rate them very highly on my influence list. Australia’s heroes ACDC also inspire me. I love the pub rock. That cracking live sound. I live to get back on that stage with a drummer and rock band and crank out some tunes in a loud way. That they have another new album out recently is cause for celebration.

Tell us about your passions

Im a gardener. I run a market garden on our property and am part of a growers collective called The Mary Valley Country Harvest. Gardening has always been a passion, but when Covid hit and my touring was cancelled earlier this year my partner and decided to bite the bullet and build a market garden. This now is producing well and keeps me very busy. There is something very honest and rewarding about growing vegetables.

I am a painter. Although I haven’t put paint on a canvas since we started the market garden, it’s something I always come back to. I do mostly abstract large colourful canvases.

What else is happening next in your world?

Not much. I’m a busy person juggling music and gardening. Im optimistic these two things will sustain my life for some time to come. I’m happy and in an environment where I’m loved and content. I don’t need any more than that.

Well, my name is Rashawd Morrell I’m a Christian Hip Hop Artist. Born in South Carolina, but raised in FL. My music is really focused on bouncing around different areas of life, where there was a trial I did or did not pass the test on and to show people that through those situations the forces of being human are very real. Those forces win sometimes, we all strive to do better but I’m a firm believer in being my authentic me. This very Idea is what fuels my passion for music because it allows me/us to know and be guided upward to something greater than us our selves. Through my music I want people to be the best self they can possibly be. Spiritually, mentally, physically, and In love.

Talk to us more about your latest release

My latest track is titled “HOT IN HERE” Its actually about something I’m going through currently, In the first verse you can here me running from a place of utter darkness and heat, I’m so desperate for a way out, so if there is a slither of light I am determined to flock to it. The second verse is where I want to end up being as there are certain areas in the elements of that verse that I’m not at all close to being it’s a hidden secret in that verse that unless you supported my music and close enough to knowing me. You’d know.

What inspired you to write this release?

Honestly, the fact that someone out there is feeling alone in a very dark place and he/she probably feels as if they are alone. But this song is confirmation that you are not alone in the fire I just choose God to be a rock to stand on in the fire.

Describe the writing and recording process

The funny thing is, I wrote this, mixed, and mastered it in about 4 hours. So I begin by praying before I write, asking God where he wants me to go, asking him to be the center of my words, sometimes he answers sometimes he doesn’t. I even write sometimes away from the word thats just my authentic self. Then I begin recording take after take until I get the right one, once that process is over I sit down and envision the sound that I want and I begin mixing with my eyes closed.

Currently I’m just getting started with finally stepping out with my music and talent I have kept on reserve until now. with me being a father to 6 my current funds go to my house first. But if I do get on tour you guys will be the first to know. I super promise!

As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?

It’s simple, authentic and easy to vibe to.

Who have you been listening to lately?

You wouldn’t believe me but I listen to a TON of EDM and Trap remixes like crazy!

Who are your biggest influences?

My wife, my kids and God! I want to keep them there as well.

Music to me speaks to the soul. If we are all connected then I know everyone will respect and love what I am bringing to light. My passion is my Nonprofit organization Serenitys Grace inc. #JustPeopleHelpingPeople is our motto and I live by it. Coming from Chicago, living in Atlanta and growing up in Orlando, I’ve heard and see alot of different styles. My sound is made for the people. To help inspire positive futures and growth in all communities!

Talk to us more about your latest release

My last release was called Rolling.” Its about my life in Orlando and what I do for my community. I actually life I speak about in my music. Coming from gangs and drugs to true friends and free hugs. But I’m no angel, I only give respect to people who deserve it. My music is clear on that. My next EP talks about current events and mindsets. Set to release late November early December. It will be attached to a feature contest. Artist can compete for placements and $1000 grand prizes with video and photo shoots included. This will complete the album as a network and community project. Sponsored by Serenitys Grace inc., and Money Base LLC. What inspired you to write this release?

To me it’s all about the sound. I hear something and I want to take it for a spin. I enjoy making music with my friends and meeting new people to collaborate with.

Music is my passion, it’s fun, and I just enjoy the teamwork and final products. They are life changing, and will last forever!

Describe the writing and recording process

I use to not write at all as kid growing up. As I get older, I’m to busy to focus on a song long enough and get in the studio to record it. But coming up with lyrics is like texting a friend some jokes. It’s funny and fire!

Recording is just as easy. One or tow takes on my verse. I may run a few different types of background vocals. Then pick out what I like. I do like to record a song and listen to it for a week or two. I can usually hear something I want to fix or change. Sometimes, I have a change I want to make, but I wont..lol. I feel the raw energy cant be changed, and no one knows my mistake but me. Keeping the originals has been some of my best work.

I had lots of plans before COVID-19. Let’s just say, “I survived 2020 and that’s most important!”

2021 is something to be patient about. Things are picking back up and I’m looking to network and see what I can be apart of.

I’m open to travel and get involved with a tour. I would like to see what comes up this new year.

As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?

To me everyone is or should be unique. When you hear my music, you definitely know it’s not something you’ve herd before. I like to bring energy to a song that is passionate and raw. Excepting people and expressing your goals is my mission and it’s something people just feel inside.

Who have you been listening to lately?

Honestly, I’ve had to stop listening to other artist a long time ago. At first it was because I wanted to keep my own sound. Now it’s because I cant listen to the content I dont agree with.

It’s easier for me to listen to myself. And continue my mission. Of course I hear music when I’m out. But I dont know who everyone is. When I play something, its Jay Z, Kanye or Marley. The greats will always be great.

Who are your biggest influences?

My biggest influence has been my oldest sister Naikira(Niki). As children she would teach me dances and steps for the step team. She was always making up her own routines. And always was busy doing something different. I used that drive to find my own passions. In a family with 6 brothers and sisters Niki has always been the closest one to me. And she is always there to support me the same way I support her.

Tell us about your passions

I live to help people. I give, and support everyone I know with positive things in life. Everyone has a need. Even successful business owners need help to sustain and grow a business. At the end of the day, they are still people.

Networking and fixing problems is my profession. Finding ways to serve everyone around me with my time. While building connections and making new friends.

The best gift in life to give is sometimes a smile or a hug. You would be surprised how many people need one.

What else is happening next in your world?

Serenitys Grace has been my focus for the last few years. We have gained sponcers and partners with companies like Aaron’s, Boys&Girls Club, Four Seasons, Walmart, Orlando Magic, Jet Blue, and more. We are growing and looking for help to grow more.

I want to host and plan some events and possibly get on tour in 2021. I’m just going along for the ride of life. Yes, is always my answer to good opportunities that come my way!

Yes this is my first album and real project in the game im exited because it really shows my versatility and talent is ways and on tracks i never thought id be into. The project is doing really well. What inspired you to write this release?

Just wanting more in life and this is something i had a passion for and knew i could do it as a career …Growing up in North Memphis, the odds are stacked against you, but beating those odds is what Inspired and motivated me ..also seeing others that come from my position or worse succeed inspires me to make my best music

Well i just listen to beats until i choose one then i upload it and make the song right then and there …no writing just me and my thoughts

Just being myself ..ive always been in the memphis environment but ive done a great job of being myself and not becoming a product of it. i can speak from the bottom in my music and style but itll reach the top due to the versatility and relations to both worlds because ive had a chance to taste both worlds

Myself 90% of the time but i like to sit back and listen to other artist stories and creativity like roddy ricch ,lil baby, herion young , some broadway webb ..future ..lil durk… literally alot of different artists with different styles like 21 savage to big scarr ,moneybagg yo or even money man

Lebron james ..nipsey hussle…my momma ..successful artist that have maintained a certain high level of success over a long period of time like drake or future

My name is Keith White, and I was born in Wise, Virginia in 1959. I grew up in Dante Virginia. My brothers and I were involved in music at an early age. I started taking piano lessons at the age of six. At the time, my eldest brother, Eddie, was taking organ lessons and was playing in a band called Woody and the Soul Brothers. Eddie played Bass and Saxophone in addition to the organ. I started to mess around with his sax at about the age of seven and quickly developed a love for the saxophone. My other older brother, Robbie, our organ player and I used to have a band with our local relatives and friends. I used to sing, play drums, and saxophone in that band. My dad took us to our first gig when I was about nine years old at a Juke Joint in Norton, Virginia. My father passed away in 1971 when I was eleven years old. To cope with his death, I became greatly immersed in playing the saxophone and continuing the band with my older brothers. Additionally, I participated in the Castlewood High school marching and concert bands. We had our own bands all throughout our elementary and high school years. My younger brother William joined our band when I was about 16. Even though he was ten years old at the time, William was our drummer. He studied and played the drums at Castlewood High School. I also studied music at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise and East Tennessee State University. I was also a member of the US Air Force Drum and Bugle corps. Keynote Music Inc was founded by Keith, Vickey, and William White in 1997. Keynote Music Band has undergone several transitions whereas, today it consists primarily of family members: Vickey White, Robbie White, Eddie White, William White, and me. What inspired you to write this release?

I have four songs on this release that are political satire or activist on this release. I wanted this stuff to be heard prior to the election. This batch of songs are a mixture of genere:

Is a 16 song musical project in which several AMAZING musicians helped bring this CD to life.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank every one of these great musicians and engineers for their contribution to this rocking CD, you all know who you are. Thank you guys so much and I love you for it. October 31st is the release date, hope you enjoy what you hear.

What inspired you to write this release?

What inspired me to write this release was the love for the sound of classic rock and the love to create that sound. Finding those artists with the same creative desires, and clicking with them during that creative process is an amazing feeling that drives this project to put out song after song.

Describe the writing and recording process

The writing and recording process are two of my personal favorite things to do. I try coming up with a great tune or an artist will have an awesome riff, we try for a certain feel in our songs each one different than the others. It’s that feeling that helps to generate the lyrics for each song. Now the day we all go into the studio it is a very exciting day for the project. For one we get to see each musician come in and all have that same electric charge, cause we haven’t seen each other in a while and the day we record we get to hear the song get layered into its own creation and the most exciting thing for us is we get to hear the song complete for the first time together cause no more the two people in the project can practice at the same time. Makes for a tremendous feeling of accomplishment and the professionalism of each artist coming in prepared to do their part. Priceless. Once again to all the artists on this CD, thank you all so much. None of this could have happened without everyone who participated. To all Rock.

Any plans to hit the road?

Hitting the road and touring is never off the table. Right now one of the two main members of this project has moved on, to Another World, passed away. Finding the dedication and professionalism in musicians is no problem, there are so many amazing musicians out there. The hardest thing would be finding ones that are not busy. Very excited to see how this project is received all in all.

As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?

As an independent artist in the Hard Rock genre it takes a lot to separate yourself from the other 4,700 songs that come out daily. Being as this project is only a few years reborn, there are some small hurdles it must overcome such as a large following, recognition and exposure to all social media, but with the proper promotion Advertising, a proper press release and radio play this project is planning on quickly overcoming those hurdles and throwing our hat in the ring. As an independent artist getting enough of the right kind of advertising and getting your merchandise in the right hands, friends and fans. Staying focused and keeping resources in advertising and marketing bundles, also staying in constant contact with everyone who shows interest in this project. Trying to get this projects music sold to movies, tv shows and or commercial projects is another goal we have our eyes on. Very interested to see where promotion takes this three year old project

Who have you been listening to lately?

I have always listened to radio stations that play classic rock. I like to study the structure of those songs and implement them into Spellbinder’s music. It was a very powerful time for that genre of music back then, that’s why they still play those songs on the air today.

Who are your biggest influences?

If you like rock, some of these project influences were all-time favorites. Van Halen, Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, Kiss, Iron Maiden. The list can go on forever but these are a few of my favorites, other artists that I closely work with love bands like Zeppelin, Sabbath, Deep Purple, etc… You can hear these influences in each song. Working with all these different amazing artists I believe brings an awesome sound to the project because of these different influences.

Tell us about your passions

My greatest passion is creating songs that people love and can relate to. Having people doing what they love to do while listening to Spellbinder’s music is the ultimate goal right? Having people appreciate the project’s music is the leading factor and is what drives this project.

What else is happening next in your world?

In my world, I will plan to get back to the recording studio and starting the next project all while promoting this new CD. What I’m unsure of is I don’t know if the Spellbinder project will proceed with releasing singles at a time or a whole other sixteen song album. Lord knows the material is all there.

So I go by King Logan. (Real name Joshua Majka ) I started Freestyling at twelve, (rap) under a bridge in Philly. It was dark, and I was tired from skating all day but I heard them (the crowd) rapping and I had to see it for myself. There was a small lull at one point and I don’t really know what made me do it, but I went for it and just started rapping. It was like in the movies when the record skips right when someone says something awkward… all eyes on me. I remember feeling like I was gonna pee myself!!! When I finished most of them laughed at me and some called me a kook, (a Philly skate term for nonlocal or unwelcome person) but two of them said it was great and that was all I needed to hear… I was hooked!

B.A.D is a man’s take on WAP !!! It’s a fun, up-tempo club banger!! The banging beat (produced by Blanq Beatz) combined with the unapologetic, yet radio-friendly lyrics is a combination for the ages! As I was constructing my album, I wanted to demonstrate that I wasn’t just your run of the mill rapper. A songwriter at heart, I love to write songs about any and every subject! This track is just a fun track about a fun time and I hope you enjoy hearing it as much as I enjoyed creating it!

What inspired you to write this release?

Honestly, not having enough radio singles on my project, (laughs) I was tooling around on Beatstars.com and stumbled across this gem of an instrumental and said I’m getting that for sure! I saw the attention WAP was getting and said I need to make something that grabs people’s attention! Shout out to both Megan and Cardi, without y’all I wouldn’t have been inspired to answer back!!

Describe the writing and recording process

I had so much fun just listening to the backtrack, there wasn’t really much to write it! I laugh all the time about how it only took me maybe twenty minutes to type this song out, and about two run-throughs to hammer down the hook! I literally freestyled the song into existence then sat for twenty minutes typing it from my practice run-through! It was just so fun, When we heard the finished product we knew we had that magic! That “hit potential” dripping from every sound actually altered the course of the entire release. I had to make it the first single off of my upcoming studio effort!

I hope I can soon! This year has been tough on us all, so I will reserve the complaining for someone who deserves it more… I’m just happy to be truly blessed enough to be here now doing what I’m doing. As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?

Well in my mind branding is the absolute hardest part of this beast I’ve come to face. A formidable foe at that. I’ve never been one to ride trends, or be with the “here and now”. Meaning, what the general public is digging on at the moment. I was always one for the here and now, as in whatever I was doing I was usually lost in that till I was done. This leads me to be slightly out of touch with the trends as I was living for me. I hope that my branding can be centered around the message within my songs and the way they make you feel. There is a lot out there to go off as well, (mainly SoundCloud ) recently I’ve taken to Spotify and Pandora though so I’m stoked on that!

Who have you been listening to lately?

King Logan radio on Spotify of course! (jokingly) Nah but for real, I am such an eclectic person that I will leave that to rap, and if the fans wanna know more they can get @ me… Now as far as rap goes…

ILL BILL just did a project with NEMS (Gorilla Twins ) kisses fingers like a chef) it’s amazing!! After I heard it I got to talking to Stu bangas to get him to cook me up some heat and we are def working on a project soon! I’ve been on to ILL BILL forever, that dude goes in.

My homie Journal just dropped his dancehall track “Dancing in my bed” that’s a banger, and hmm Lil Durk and Drakes laugh now cry later is some heat too!

Who are your biggest influences?

Man, that depends on the song! I used to be a hater! ( no cap ) I used to hate all this new stuff coming out as every other boom bap head did. Now, these new cats are driving me to adjust to the new surroundings, I respect that. My inspiration is really music itself. It’s everything, it’s everywhere, and when it reaches the appropriate ears it interacts with every fiber of their being. If you listen to my tracks you’ll hear the fluidity from topic to topic, mood to mood, and cadence to cadence. My songs are memories painted out on a timeline like a story would be, if you get into lyrics you’ll love my style.

Tell us about your passions

Besides music… I’d say food and skateboarding. I love to explore foreign cultures and cuisine. My girlfriend loves to eat food from all over the world and does her best to keep things traditional, it makes it nice for us to learn new cultures using food as an entry point. Skateboarding has always been my passion though. There’s nothing quite like it! Imagine moving between thirty and fifty miles an hour (depending on your skills) sideways on a wall, with over vert angles, using a piece of wood and some skate wheels…. sound like fun? Did to me (laughs heartily)

Music videos shoot… Not too experienced with acting, and when I’m not rapping I clam up on cam (nervous chuckle) But we’re gonna do this thing and they are gonna be movies I promise!

Tell us about yourself and your music

I am an independent musician from the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago but living in Rhode Island USA. My focus is on music for Steel Band/ Steel Drums. My music education started with my father teaching me how to play and make steel pan musical instruments at an early age of about eight and twelve respectively. My father was an excellent player of steel drums also a master builder and pioneer of the steel band.

Formally, I’ve studied classical and Jazz music and hold a BA Music degree from Rhode Island College. Calypso, the music of my birth country, is a life-long learning process experience for me.

I compose music that has its origin in life activities, like the birth of my first son or a comment from my mother. I compose music in various styles like Afro Cuban, Pop, Calypso, and Jazz. There is also a side of my composing that has its genesis in scales and chord organization. I enjoy composing medium tempo music with a colorful variety of musical instruments, like keyboards, Trumpets, etc, while steel drum take lead. Jazz and music built for improvising is also a fun activity of mine, as a creative musician improvisation takes that creativity to another level.

Talk to us more about your latest release

My latest releases are two albums of music with a heavy Jazz influence. Music composed to portray various moods I find myself in also places and, events that in some way have affected who I am as a person. One track from the album, Deep In It, was inspired by a soothing sunset above the volcanic-like asphalt lake ( locally called Pitch Lake) located in the South West of Trinidad, near Venezuela. The sun sank below the horizon in the Gulf of Paria just like English and Spanish Blending. I used Congas and the Latin flavor in that area and not drums on that track.
Another track, Now in Your Favor, taken from the album, Tell It All, was inspired by an episode that occurred when my son Aaron was six. Displeased about not receiving the portion of cake he expected, he resolved to stop speaking to me forever. I took him to Chuck E. Cheese ( children’s play center) the next day. I was in his favor again.

What inspired you to write this release?

I created The Question because my heart ached for humanity and our present condition. We cannot satisfy the greed of the rich, while countless millions of people are hungry; sleeping on streets, in rain and cold. Most without clean, warm clothes to wear or somewhere safe to sleep.

Using a little boy of about seven years old as the main character for the song. In my mind’s eyes, I placed his Christmas shopping with his mother in busy New York City. He observes homeless people sleeping on sidewalks and asks his mother, “Mom, do they have a Christmas”?

Describe the writing and recording process

Writing the Question found me inspired in the middle of the night. I went to my Steel Drum and began to play out the melody that woke me from my sleep. I added words, chords, and recorded the sketch at about 3:27 that morning. Later that day, I telephoned my friend Anthony Caramadre, to book time at his recording studio. A few days later I was in the studio building the track for The Question. We started with the drums, then Keyboards, Steel Drums I sang lead vocals. We invited my mother and a junior choir to sing background vocals. The entire process took about three full days.

Any plans to hit the road?

No plans to tour, not until the world is in a better place with regards to the COVID-19 Pandemic. I’ll be hosting live-stream shows though. A Christmas Steel Drum Serenade concert is scheduled for December 5, 2020, from 7:00 pm at the McVinney Auditorium in Providence RI

As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?

As an Indi artist, there are not many musicians that play the steel drums like I do, and aspire for a career that pushes the steel drums as the main instrument. In general, it is not an easy undertaking to be different from other artists. I always try to be me and let that originality take the lead.

My Music is a reflection of my life experiences mixed with what I have seen. Along with what I would like to become and what I think the world should be. I use different styles depending on production and can’t be confined into a box. For the most part, I like it gritty and edgy though.

Poorly Living with D.O, E. is a project that I wanted to just get back to my street roots. The project before had a more political conscience kind of vibe mixed with some street elements and one or two joints for the ladies. This album is definitely for the hip hop purest mixed with new school elements and West Indian vibes.

What inspired you to write this release?

The inspiration I drew to make this project was my current situation that year. Things that were happening in my neighborhood that would make national news. Relationships with my friends and women and the current situation in Hip Hop. My competitive nature.

Describe the writing and recording process

I write sporadically the vibe has to reach me you know. I draw inspiration also from the production some songs practically write themselves because it will tell me what to say sounds weird but true. Ideas pop up in my head and I say them over and over and over until I can write them down so some songs I may have before I get a beat that matches it. Other times ill wait till I have the beat then an Idea comes to me. As far as recording on this project I recorded it myself in my personal studio and mixed and mastered it myself. I also shot and edited my video for Taking it off which I shot in Negril Jamaica that was a fun experience. I even had a yacht in the shot lol.

Covid-19 has definitely put a hinder on performances for everybody. The last show I did was right before the outbreak in Feb I opened up for Uncle Murda in Brooklyn. I have been invited to a festival to perform so I am weighing do I feel safe enough to go do it. Hopefully, tho when this all settles down I can get to do a lot of shows and try push my movement nationally then globally.

As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?

I will simply be myself because I’m a pretty complex interesting individual. I don’t like to use gimmicks and promo tricks. I feel the music will speak for itself my movement is called Gordonsville because in my teens and twenties it was the lifestyle I was living while trying to make the music take off. I’ve been in situations and survived them so I figure once you hear Goonsville you kind of know the type style of music your gonna get, However, I switch it up to keep the audience guessing what I will do next. I guess the word is versatility. I also like some others love the monarchy them cause since a kid I felt like I was the Prince and Pauper or King Arthur that would draw Excalibur from the stone.

Lil Baby, Da Baby, Nipsey Hussle, all my classic 90’s stuff early 2000 stuff. Griselda is dope. I have an eclectic ear so I like a lot of different styles of music. Nowadays tho I like classic R&B the stuff I couldn’t really appreciate as a kid. Since I do rap or I am an MC rather cause to me that is beyond rapper. I like to listen to people that do a style of music I don’t and the art of real singers are lost because every rapper is considered a singer now.

Who are your biggest influences?

Nas, Biggie, Jay-z, Tupac, Mobb Deep. Wu-tang, Busta Rhymes, Rakim, LL- Cool J, Run DMC, KRS One, Kool G Rap, Mic Geronimo, Most MCs out of Queens during the golden era of Hip Hop. Snoop Dogg, Dogg Pound, Bounty Killer, Elephant Man, Beenie Man, 50 cents, The Lox I can go on and on. So many more MCS but I can say that’s the Core nucleus of them all. Bootcamp Clik I liked them too Sean Price was good.

Tell us about your passions

My family. Success. I love my wife and Kids im grown you know. I want to get into philanthropic endeavors that can institute social change. The highest the one true universal living God not to get to into religion. Just improving my quality of life while continuing to inspire others, anything I do it passionately I give my all.

Only God knows because I can plan but he is the best of planners. Hopefully, I can release some more projects that I’m currently working on right now but won’t say nature because I have seen my ideas after spoken by me whether online or to a friend done by someone else, so just stay tuned.

Interstellar Noise – “Worlds Just Beyond Reach”

I’m a 24-year-old multi-instrumentalist and producer currently residing in Asheville, North Carolina. I’ve been playing music for most of my life but finally started recording and producing a few years ago. I have a background in piano, percussion, and guitar and used this as a starting base for my songwriting. My music spans across several different genres including ambient, dream pop, downtempo electronic, synth-wave, and shoegaze, and often combines various elements of each. I try not to box myself in with genre confines and restrictions. While my music varies from a sonic standpoint, in general, I try to create lush, spacey atmospheres with dreamlike, emotive themes.

Talk to us more about your latest release

“Worlds Just Beyond Reach” is an 8 track album that I wrote, recorded, and produced this year. The record is marked by sprawling celestial soundscapes complete with an array of dreamy synths and guitars. The grandiose, larger-than-life feel of the release is meant to make it fully immersive and alluring. I wanted to make the listener feel as though they were gliding through space while listening, and tried to find a balance between a sense of pure tranquility as well as excitement and energy.

What inspired you to write this release?

This record was in large part inspired by the events of 2020. My music has always centered around escapist themes, and I felt these were more relevant now than ever with the tumultuous events of the year. Between the global pandemic, widespread political and social unrest, and the ever-looming existential threat of climate change, there has been a lot to worry about recently and it has been a stressful, anxiety-inducing time for us all. I came down with the virus myself and spent a large portion of the year sick and isolating, which took a toll on my physical and emotional health. While I felt myself being weighed down with the pressure of these issues as well as my own experiences, I wanted to create something that functioned completely independent of these subjects and served as a much-needed source of relief and fantasy. All of the tracks on this release were meant to have a cosmic, otherworldly quality to work as a distraction and a source of serenity. I was trying to create the sounds and optimistic feelings that would evoke a fictional, idealistic place where things weren’t so unsettling and dark – a reality where we weren’t faced with all these impending threats, and where humanity could reach its full potential and exist in a state of harmony. This is where the title ” Worlds Just Beyond Reach” comes from. This utopian society is, in theory, a possibility – but something that unfortunately lies beyond our current abilities as a species. I hoped that I could at least create a collection of tracks that echo this sentiment, and embody the feeling of looking into the night sky and wondering about what could be.

As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?

My main method of accomplishing this has been to stick true to myself and make the music that I want to make. I’ve been told numerous times that I can’t or shouldn’t do certain things with my music. There’s a lot of gatekeeping in some subgenres. People want you to stick to a mold. I don’t believe in that. I think there’s nothing wrong with trying new things and melding different styles together. Some of history’s most ambitious and experimental music projects have ultimately been some of the most successful. Brian Wilson was famously met with confusion when he first showed “Pet Sounds” to his bandmates. “Kid A” was considered to be a flop upon initial release by many critics and fans. So while I appreciate and listen to constructive criticism, I make a point to never change core elements of my music just because someone thinks I should. I think it’s important to push the envelope sometimes.

Who have you been listening to lately?

I’ve had a lot of 90’s dream-pop and shoegaze in my rotation recently. Artists like Cocteau Twins, Slowdive, and Ride have been really resonating with me in a way that few others can. There’s something about that shimmering, atmospheric sound and melancholic lyrics that scratches all the right itches for me. I’ve also been getting heavily into The Radio Dept., as well as this year’s new releases from some of my classic favorites like The Strokes and Fleet Foxes.

Who are your biggest influences?

Some of my biggest influences include Boards of Canada, Radiohead, Beach House, Tycho, Brian Eno, Washed Out, Pink Floyd, Cocteau Twins, DIIV, Tame Impala, Built to Spill, Animal Collective, Aphex Twin, Wild Nothing, Modest Mouse, Odesza, and Daft Punk

My music falls in the genre of Pop / Top 40. I have a soulful feel which comes from my days of singing in my grandfather’s church choir. I believe that my music touches the soul of many and my fans will love the music that I am going to release in 2021

My current single is a Christmas song named Christmas Day In America and it is on all music platforms. The song was released on October 13, 2020, and is doing very well with streaming on Spotify. Hopefully, we will have close to a few hundred thousand streams at the end of the holiday season as it is currently streaming on over 25 playlists. The Christmas Day In America Single is soulful, popular, melodic with a great beat. It was written by Anthony Wainwright and Produced by Gold Producer Dave Sevon Lyndsey. We are looking for this Christmas song to grow some wings every year and take off with continuous streams during the holiday season.

What inspired you to write this release?

I was inspired by having the holiday spirit and I always wanted to do a song that was reflective of how I feel during the holiday season.

The song was written by Anthony Wainwright and Produced by Dave Sevon Lyndsey. We recorded Christmas Day In America At Dave Sevon Lyndsey’s personal studio.

Due to Covid-19, all touring is on pause for now. Hopefully, 2021 will be the year to allow me to start back touring.

As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?

Currently, I am branding through all social media networks, ie, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and I market my music mainly through Spotify. I will eventually get back to touring in 2021.

I have always been a listener of Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars, along with quite a few others.

Who are your biggest influences?

My biggest influences are Michael Jackson, Prince, Sly and the Family Stones, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Terence Trent D’Arby, James Brown, Lennie Kravitz, and many more.

My passion is songwriting and performing. I am a performance junky. I love entertaining the crowds who come out to see me.

I am looking forward to my new single in January of 2021 called A-List was written by Tealand Smith, Anthony Wainwright, and Dave Sevon Lyndsey and Produced by Dave Sevon Lyndsey. I am a 41-year-old Singer from the West of Ireland and where I live is only 8 mins from the Famous Ballyglunin Railway Station that was featured in The Quiet Man where John Wayne came off a train in a scene. Corofin is a beautiful village and very historic. And had many talented Musicians and Singers. And I am delighted and privileged to be one of them, started in Church Choir in 1993 and when I started Secondary school I got to sing solos in many places such as Knock Basilica and also years on I went on All Ireland’s got talent and that was an amazing experience to get near final 8.

Well Wind Beneath my Wings is very close to my heart as my late dad passed away on 23rd June 2005 and he is and will always be in my heart and soul and he was the most amazing dad and along with my Wonderful and Bubbly 83-year-old mum Maureen who is my Rock and my family including my paw baby pet Joey ⭐️

What inspired you to write this release?

Although I didn’t write Wind beneath my wings this song is a cover. It reminds me of my dad an angel in heaven.

Describe the writing and recording process

Recorded in Cong in Co. Mayo is not far from the famous Ashford Castle. My Album took a few months to complete. And I did a cover of Wind Beneath my Wings in an Irish Twist. Changed a little to the way Bette milder did her version.

Born of Panamanian/African-American descent. This Brooklynite has seen his share of life hustling on the streets starting at the tender age of 8 years old. He was raised around New York City’s most notorious figures. I SEE THE SUN SHINING- ft Niya B & Krissy was a song I wrote referencing the frustration I was having struggling as an up and coming to MC, and witnessing a group of my peers whom I know personally get on almost effortlessly while I was stuck in the hood becoming a statistic waiting for my chance to receive my big break.

What inspired you to write this release?

I was going through some dark times suffering from depression & past healing from a gunshot wound that nearly took my life. While healing I was hearing some of my peers were getting signed to major deals and making noise in the game while I was healing up. I wrote this song to motivate myself to push forward and don’t let my current situation define my future. As well as remind me there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel.

Describe the writing and recording process

I had linked with a new producer by the name of Maine Streets who I began working with. During one of our meetings, he played this alternative type of vibe that spoke to me instantly. I knew from there I just wanted to tell my truths. So I wrote what I was feeling and wanted to give the listeners a little background of where I coming from and where I was going. I wrote the whole song but knew I needed a distinctive voice on the chorus. Dj Krissy was a radio Dj in the Atlanta area, whose daughter was this up & coming artist named Niya B whose voice had this level of pain that I felt would be dope on this particular record. so I had her and her mother come to the studio to work on this song. I lucked up because they both gave their vocals and helped me create a dope song that actually tells my story.

Yes, once this pandemic is over. But I have something in the works dates to be announced.

I take my career seriously. So I make sure I complete paperwork for everything. I live my truths so it translates through my music. I make it my business to not follow any trends. My Aquarius mind won’t allow me to. I try my best not to sound like anyone else. I’m an artist with creative freedom so I dare to be different as well uphold the true essence of the craft. Have your hands in everything that helps to brand you and solidify your position in this game.

Music and acting. I love being creative or being of the arts. It’s always been a life long dream to get these fields. Making music is my destiny and acting is a plus that helps brand my whole celebrity.

In the process of releasing my long-awaited sophomore project “TOLDYALLUKANTSEEME” release date to be announced. I will be dropping singles in between that to hold the fans over. I also have a couple of movie projects I was fortunate to be involved in. One in particular “Bully” The dead don’t die: directed by Alex Hugo and written by Tanzania Hughes. Tell us about yourself and your music

I was born in Sydney, Australia. My father Peter was originally from Sydney, and my mother Dawn was from Franklin, Virginia. They met in Israel while traveling the world and got married a few years later. At the age of three, we moved to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. I started taking piano lessons at a young age and developed a love for music. I got my first electric guitar at the age of 12 and began to learn basic chords. I lost interest until the age of 15 when I got my first acoustic guitar and began writing songs and singing.

Talk to us more about your latest release

My two albums that are currently out were recorded in my home studio in North Carolina. The first album, Fire and Wine, is a compilation of songs from around 10 years ago. My latest album, Broken Dreams, are songs that I have written in the past five years. I am currently working on a third album, Make Your Move, that I hope to release in early 2021.

What inspired you to write this release?

The songs I write each come from a different time in my life where I was experiencing different thoughts and emotions. Keeping up with the recording process with music that is recent is a battle within itself. I feel that my music comes from a good place, and I hope that people can connect with it positively. Music is not something I just sit down and create. It comes to me as I continue to live life and gain experiences along the way. So essentially, life itself is the inspiration behind all the music I write.

Describe the writing and recording process

All of my songs begin on the acoustic guitar. As a poet and a songwriter, I am a purist when it comes to creating a piece of music. I believe that even without drums, bass, and lead guitar, the song should be able to stand alone and be appreciated the same. I record each instrument separately in the studio to a basic acoustic and vocal track, and then build the song from there. I only use complete takes that are as close to perfection as one can get.

Any plans to release a video?

Any plans to hit the road?

I am hoping to play some local shows in the summer of 2021 on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. If you’re on vacation here, you might see me!

I believe as a musician, it’s all about the music. The music speaks for itself, and I believe it’s up to the listeners and fans to recognize it as different and unique from the rest.

I listen to the radio frequently while driving. It’s cool to hear so many different types of music and how they are created. It’s incredible how so many people doing the same thing can be so different!

Who are your biggest influences?

I believe some of my biggest influences in music were not bands or musicians, but poets. I studied and learned a lot of poetry at a young age, and so being familiar with them, it gave me a great foundation as a songwriter and lyricist.

Tell us about your passions

I have a passion for great food and enjoy cooking as much as I can. I enjoy helping people in my community and doing things for others as much as I can. I live in a truly unique place and feel so blessed to have the ability to thrive as an artist where I live.

What else is happening next in your world?

Well, I have two albums on the way in the next year, so I am really looking forward to releasing this music for people to listen to. I’m hoping to continue to play live acoustic shows around the beach, and one day, maybe go on tour with a bigger band as an opening act. But all in good time. I’ll have to wait and see what happens.

The Racy Brothers’ Walter Witherspoon talks Past, Present & Future, Interview by Raquel Thompson

Tell us about yourself and your music

“The Racy Brothers is a family group- consisting of brothers, Bobby and Vernell Racy; myself Walter Witherspoon, and Pervis Holly- that has been doing music for three decades. We have added to the group Andre Spinks, we have two keyboard players, and as well as a full band. We were just sitting around my grandmother’s home, and we began humming some tunes. It was, oh, after midnight, and [my grandmother] woke up and she said “Y’all sound good! Y’all should start ya’ll a group.”. So [The Racy Brothers] kind of started from there, when I was in high school at the time. Here in Dumas [Arkansas], we all were a very close-knit family, so I played with my mom’s group and my dad’s group. We had a place called The Dumas Quartet Singing Center where they would go every second Sunday, and that’s basically where our foundation of quartet music started. My whole family was
musically inclined. My father was a guitar player, and he sang with a group called the “Sensational Birds of Harmony”. My mother was not only the choir director in our church,
but she also sang with a group. It didn’t matter how grown you thought you were or how late you stayed out on Saturday night, where we came from, you were getting up and going to church.”

Talk to us more about your latest release

“Our latest release is called ‘Heal Our Land (Only You Can)’. It’s a song that I wrote some years ago back when all of the shootings were taking place in our schools. We saw innocent children lose their lives, and God inspired me to write this song. After that, so much continued going on in our nation, just like now [in 2020]. At that point, I realized the song would never get old. I began to do different versions of the song: something else would happen, and I’d write another verse. I got [the concept of the song] strictly from the Word of God in 2 Chronicles 7:14: ‘If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from
heaven and forgive their sins, and I will heal the land. That’s basically the root of the song, and that’s where it came from. God inspired me to do it, and I’m grateful to be the writer of
it. I want to share the song with the entire world because our land is most definitely in need of healing. That’s what makes the song so strong because it’s a true song.”

What inspired you to write this release?

“[The release of the song] was just all God’s timing with Al Bell Presents and Greg [Thompson] and Mr. Orson [Weems]. The whole team is awesome to be a part of, and see everything come together. It’s been great seeing it touch so many people and seeing the impact it’s had on the entire nation.”

Describe the writing and recording process

“The recording process is always a great joy. I always love going behind the mixer and putting together music because there’s a thing on the inside of me that won’t let me stop until I can finish the final piece, to have all the other musicians come together and play their part in it. It’s a great collaboration when it becomes all fined tuned and the whole nine yards. The process of recording was a lot of fun. I always start my writing with an acoustic
guitar or a piano to get the chord structure where I want it. Once I begin to get the lyrics just where they need to be, then of course you have to make sure you have it in the right key and the right tempo. All of the instrumentation is what brings the song to life. [The process] is trying to make sure that when you’re producing the song that God gave you, that you’re doing it just the way it was given to you. Then when it comes out, you want it to be
even better. It’s just a great joy to be able to be gifted enough, and I give all praises to God because I never forget the giver of the gift. Many, many hours can go into a recording session, and then you go back the next day and listen to what you did the day before, and
you’re like “Okay, let me re-do this,” and then it all begins again.”

Any plans to hit the road?

“We most definitely have plans. If the phone rings and the [gig] make sense and it’s safe, we’re doing it. Right now, we’re working on more material, so stay tuned. We’re looking forward to doing more tour dates in the upcoming 2021 year when it’s safe, and we would love to come to a city near all of [our fans].”

As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?

“I do want to say there’s a lot of great artists that are out right now, especially when it comes to the traditional quartet music. I think one of the things that make The Racy Brothers stand out is, in all of our years being together, we have not changed. We still carry the root of where our music began that the people love and what made us who we are. At the same time, we add the flavor of where we need to go as well. So, not only are we keeping all the older fans that have supported us to be where we are now, but we’re also gaining newer fans because of the new flavor. We want to make sure we’re staying up to date on what’s going on. We’re not afraid to step out and try new things, but at the same time, you never want to lose those roots of where we came from. I think that’s what makes us stand out as a group, in our music, and our performances. I’m thankful we’ve allowed God to have His way. We give it all we’ve got. God just steps into the room and He makes a difference. When that happens, people fall in love with who that group is, and they can feel [the music]. Those types of experiences make [The Racy Brothers] who we are. It’s about being comfortable with who you are, and I thank God we’re talented enough to go outside the box. It’s a great thing to be accepted in different areas. Sometimes, I wonder what if we were doing different types of music, but this is God’s plan for us, and I’m thankful we’re still here. That’s a blessing to be able to say after 30 years.”

Who have you been listening to lately?

“I listen to the radio and I’ve taken this time [in quarantine] to do a lot of writing myself. I’m grateful to say I own a studio, so I lock in there. I’m putting down ideas so that when all of the [Covid-19 restrictions] are lifted, and it’s time to hit the road, we’ll be ready. We are still doing quite a bit of studio work, even in this time of quarantine. We’re coming together and sharing ideas. I love listening to “The Williams Brothers”, I love “The Jackson Southerners”, The Canton Spirituals, Might Cloud of Joy” who are now friends our ours. These were groups who paved the way and who we go way back with. There’s a new generation of guys now that are coming up and their talent is amazing. I like listening to all of that and it all inspires me. I’ll look at a sign and I’ll be, like, ‘I have to get to the studio.’. It’s all about brainstorming and putting stuff together to make the pieces fit.”

Who are your biggest influences?

“My biggest influence is making sure our priorities are in the right place and we know why we do what we do, and that is simply to direct a man, woman, boy, or girl to who Jesus Christ is. We can’t ever forget that’s our job and that’s what we’ve been left here to do. That’s the Great Commission we’re supposed to be carrying out. I have to give credit to many [influences]. I’ve always been one to when I get around or get recognize wisdom, knowledge, or great talent, I would sit back and listen. It’s a blessing to be quiet and listen. Mr. [Al] Bell has schooled us. Even with everything we have going on now, he never ceases to amaze me with the ideas he comes up with. I always want to listen to a person who has accomplished what I want to accomplish. I remember speaking to some of the older groups when we had a chance to do the Living Legends of Gospel Music live recording. Out of 13 groups, we were the youngest in the recording session. There was a lot we learned. The Racy Brothers have had the opportunity to share many, many stages. I can remember sitting there, listening to them talk. “The Nighting Gales” would talk to us, a group that has been singing for 60 and 70 years. You must be able to soak in all of that wisdom and speak when it’s time to speak. It was amazing to hear their stories and what they all had to go through. I thank God that because of what they went through, we don’t have to go through the challenges they faced. Now, it’s our job to tell the next generation that’s coming up what we have learned. That’s the joy of it now. There are so many I look up to because they accomplished. With all we’ve learned, I want to display leadership so that our group can carry on even after I’m gone.”

Tell us about your passions

“Preaching the gospel is my passion. I have a love for the People of God. I have been pastoring for eleven years now, and it’s very strange how it all happened but I knew it was the call upon my life. When I finally decided to stop running and found out I couldn’t outrun God, He opened so many doors for me that no man can close. It’s been an exciting journey and I thank God for it. Knowing that I’m caring for the people of God, and loving them, and doing what he’s called me to do which is to lead them into the light- is what gets me up every morning. I thought it would be harder to adapt [due to Covid-19] but God has fixed it to where I’ve been blessed to have my son in the ministry with me now. He’s been the youth pastor for about three years now, and he’s someone I definitely trust so when I have to be away, I have someone I can depend on. So, I’m excited about it, and for more to come.”

Carlos Cannon is known as a smooth jazz saxophonist with three Smooth Jazz CD’s, “Steppin’ Up The Game,” “Takin It Smooth,” and “In The Name of Love.” Until now 2020, he released a Dance/House song called “Hennessy.” The Hennessy song and video are about joy, dance, and having fun. Before his Hennessy release, the native Chicagoan has been making his mark throughout the states and around the Chicago area for more than three-decade as a professional soloist & contemporary jazz artist. Mr. Cannon latest CD released is called, “Steppin’ Up The Game,” is one of the most requested smooth jazz CD in Chicago and is reaching the attention across the states. At the age of 12, Carlos Cannon started playing the bass guitar in neighborhood bands and high school. Inspired by the late Grover Washington Jr., Carlos Cannon eagerly picked up the alto saxophone and became the first chair player in the Paul Robeson high school jazz band in Chicago. Carlos Cannon went on to major in music performance at Illinois State University where he formed his own jazz band and took first place in the state jazz band competition. He later transferred to Roosevelt University and continued his musical studies.

Talk to us more about your latest release

August 2020, I released a single called, “Hennessy.” Although is a drink, the song and video are about joy, dance, and having fun. However, the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, it affected the music industry wold wide. It caused many artists, bands, musicians, and club owners to shut down their businesses which left the music industry, artists, without work. While the music industry being shut down, I decided to write another genre of music called dance music and started singing. One day in my studio, I was bumping the music of a dance track that I had written. My wife, Daiane came into my music studio. A little history about my wife, Daiane, she is from Brazil, Rio de Janeiro. We had been together for over ten years and had been married since 2017. In 2011, Daiane became apart of the Brazilian Chicago Samba Dance Group. In 2015, she became the first-place winner as the “Queen of Chicago Samba,” champion. Daiane is now known as a professional Samba Dancer and Samba Costume designer. Meanwhile, I had to ask Daiana to lay something down on the dance track. While in my music studio, Daiane was playing around with some words (freestyling) on the microphone. While recording her, I began to notice something magical was happening. The rhythmic rhymes of her voice and her Brazilian flavor(rapping) gave life to the song. We began to collaborate on some exchanges of lyrics and “Hennessy,” was formed. However, the “Hennessy,” song could not be completed without having some jazz flavor and a little funk of soprano saxophone which put the icing on the cake.

The “Hennessy,” the song features Carlos Cannon, lead vocalist, Brazilian rapper, wife, Daiane Cannon, Aka, “DayMdz,” and “TChi,” back round and Ab lib vocalists. Lyric is written by Carlos and Daiane Cannon. Music is produced by Carlos Cannon and Key Productions.

What inspired you to write this release?

The “Hennessy,” song was created when one day I asked my wife, after 10 years of being together, to say something over a dance music track I have written. While in my music studio, Daiane was playing around with words (freestyling) on the microphone. While recording her, I began to notice something magical was happening. Daiane’s rhythmic voice was unique and was on point, her rhythmic rhythms of her Brazilian culture was flowing naturally. This Brazilian woman has skills vocally she didn’t know about. After recording her unique style of rapping, I infused the Dance track with a funky soprano sax solo groove. We then exchanged some lyrical verses and “Hennessy” was formed. My right-hand man and vocalist, “TChi” gave his solid Ad libs vocals which made the “Hennessy” song, “There it is.”

Any plans to hit the road?

We are open to future concert venues and are looking forward to tours. Our music consists of Dance/House music, R&B, Smooth Contemporary Jazz, and Brazilian Samba.

As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?

As an indie artist, 2020, I brand my music to consist of a powerful female Brazilian rapper, R&B vocalists, fused with the funkiest flavor of the saxophone. All of this is mixed together which form a dance groove vibe that I call BrazilRapSaxaFunk. So you’re getting contemporary smooth jazz, R&B vocalists, and the fresh sound of a female Brazilian Rapper. Who have you been listening to lately?

Lately, I have been listening to a lot of Brazilian artists, and artists from South Africa like Nomcebo Zikode.

Who are your biggest influences?

My influences as a saxophonist, I grew up on Grover Washington Jr., Cannonball Addley, to contemporary jazz artist and saxophonist, Gerald Albright to Kenny G. As a vocalist, I listen to South Africa vocalist Nomebo Zikode. American artists; Kim, Seal, Rihanna, Chris Brown, Beyonce, and many more.

Tell us about your passions

My passion is I love all types of music innovation with a positive message. Music is a universal language that everyone can feel or understand by the beat or the lyrics being sung.

What else is happening next in your world?

I am preparing to release my next song and video. It is called “GreyGoose.” Unlike my “Hennessy,” song, “GreyGoose” is about, well stay tuned, it will be released early spring 2021.

Our country is in a very unhinged place. I felt the need to create something that would be healing for everyone.

What inspired you to write this release?

Heal This Land) was written for the pain and torment we as American’s see on a daily. From murder, death, assault, cancer, protest, etc.

This song was written and sung passionately by me, D-Soul Davis. I reflect on these troubling times by conveying an immovable message

about Unity, Peace, and Love. The one desire and wish I have is that you listen with an open mind and heart. This song is intended to lift, and bless the

world with an undying love! Share this wonderful message and song!!!

Describe the writing and recording process

I was at a place where I felt. That as an artist. I have a platform to create change. So with Heal This Land. I wrote this song to truly touch, and heal many with the lyrics and soothing but yet impactful music.

More as a fusion artist I would say. I love all facets of music. From Hip Hop, rock, jazz, gospel, classical, and even country. I combine all of my influences into every aspect of the production phase.

Definitely the older albums. I’ve been on Brian McKnight, KC and JoJo, The Stylistics, Parliament, and Prince lately.

My latest release Love Over Hate is about coming up in the game with a mixture of love and hate and learning to let the love overpower the negative energy.

What inspired you to write this release?

This song was inspired by the times that we’re in where the fake ish is overriding the real substance, that real pain, and struggle.

Describe the writing and recording process

first I allow the beat to capture me and then I grab my notepad or phone and begin writing the hook and next to the verses. I record at my studio.

Any plans to release a video?

Any plans to hit the road?

Due to the pandemic, I will focus on touring next year sometime.

As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?

I keep my websites and merch updates as well as consistently releasing music and just working hard. At the same time, I take moments out of my schedule to study and learn the music business.
