Artist Interview: JD Baker

artist-interviews

Tell us about yourself and your music

My name is JD Baker, and I reside in Maryville, TN. I started performing music around September of 2014 after I had broken my back. I have always enjoyed music and had wanted to perform, but have always had stage fright. The very first time I performed was with Randy Woody in Oak Ridge, TN and I ABSOLUTELY fell in love. Every time that I wrote a new song, my main goal is to impact at least one person’s life. My music is more or less about my life, my beliefs, and the things I love most in life.

Talk to us more about your latest release

My released that I am working on which will be my first radio release is called, Jack’d Up. It’s pretty much talking about how I lived my life after the passing of my sister. It’s a very up beat and “bro country” style, haha. It also is a song that people can relate to who grew up in the south.

What inspired you to write this release?

The inspiration came from a post I had made on Facebook. I had asked all of my followers what kind of song they wanted, and majority said, ” a backroads party song.”

Any plans to release a video?

We haven’t really talked about a video, due to pricing. We do not want to pay for poor production.

Any plans to hit the road?

We are in the middle of setting dates for touring. We will for sure be in GA, Alabama, TN, and KY.

As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?

Haha, well my brand came from my fans. I get compared to Brantley Gilbert, due to my sound, look, and the way I carry myself.

Who have you been listening to lately?

I have been listening to a lot of Cody Jinks and Chris Stapleton.

Tell us about your passions

First a formost, God is my biggest reason for getting out of bed. But, I love dirt track racing. I have been around it my whole life and I crew cheif on three dirt late models for Rex Coffey.

What else is happening next in your world?

I’m getting a promotion at my company, and furthering my career doing acoustic shows, because I have of late been learning how to play the guitar.

Thanks for an awesome interview, JD!
